Er4s07 : Topic 5 Presentations : Group Feedback
∙ Needed to include history of Ryanair in introduction
∙ Good structure for production function, but needed more detail and real world examples from Ryanair. Could also have included diagrams and pictures to
illustrate. Hub airport and maintenance are also issues that could be mentioned here.
∙ Strategy- analysis of fixed and variable very good, but you could also make some additional points using categories headings e.g. Making Fixed costs more variable,
Lowering Costs, etc. Good examples but again should include real world examples and include cost curves diagrams. Discussion comparing with high cost airline examples might be useful.
∙ Strengths- needed referencing
∙ Weaknesses- need to explain more.
∙ Opportunities- basic and unreferenced.
∙ Threats - some good points (substitutes) but you don't mention complements
∙ Good opening diagram and info on company- but presentation was difficult to read.
∙ Business model diagram good. And discussion of business model detailed. It was a little too descriptive, rather than analytical and you needed to use more
∙ Definition of 4 factors of production good.
∙ Statement that in short run all costs fixed needed to be altered.
∙ Analysis focused on how costs reduced but again this was very descriptive rather
than analytical, though it was referenced.
∙ Statement that Ryanair is in a perfectly completive Market is incorrect (more monopolistic competition as we will see in a few weeks).
∙ No swot analysis, which was needed.
∙ Good start but unreferenced.
∙ Good basic analysis of factors of production.
∙ Market structure- you claimed it was perfectly competitive, which it is not and is a need to define normal and abnormal profit if you are going to use the terms. ∙ Long run discussion less good than discussion of short run cost issues.
∙ Needed to fit discussion of Business model into SWOT structure? Could also have used diagrams more.
∙ Needed to explain more explicitly how an increase in oil price can increase
demand for Ryan Air services?
∙ The SWOT presented was basic, unreferenced, and very short. It needed real world examples.
∙ History- good diagram used and good info on diagram.
∙ Good use of map- could put flights on.
∙ Good discussion in terms of (lack of) maintenance hub.
∙ Good general discussion about labour costs being kept minimal, and also giving an example that compared with high cost carriers.
∙ Good analysis of entrepreneurship and use of statistics (e.g. 82% utilisation of seat capacity).
∙ Basic swot and needed to reference.
